Snap Shot of Police Chief Jim Schilling
Friday, 21 November 2008
jschilling.jpgTo protect and serve the city of Clearfield can be a daunting assignment, according to Clearfield City Police Chief Jim Schilling.

“As certified officers, we take an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States, the state of Utah, and the city of Clearfield,” explained Schilling. “As police officers we help to protect the rights of our citizens. On the surface that is wonderful, heroic, even. However, when you look deeper, and consider the anarchy that took place in New Orleans in the aftermath of Katrina, the oath we take is pretty serious.”

As the police chief of Clearfield, Utah, hurricanes are not something that Schilling has to worry about. However, overseeing the protection of our citizens is what his department does best and he has the officers and programs in place to do just that.

The Clearfield City Police Department has 32 certified police officers, one special functions officer, nine full-time emergency/911 dispatchers, four Records Department/Administrative Assistants, a part-time Emergency Preparedness manager, and almost 30 school crossing guards. The Chief oversees a $4 million budget, of which 84% pays for salaries/wages/benefits, and 16% covers operating costs, such as vehicles, dispatch radio equipment, and day-to-day operations.
