Thatcher Brook Rehabilitation and Care Groundbreaking
Monday, 30 June 2008
A groundbreaking ceremony recently took place for a new therapeutic and rehabilitation center in Clearfield. Located at 1795 S. Chelmes Way, behind the Goldenwest Credit Union, this 30-bed short-term care facility will bring 35-40 employees to Clearfield.

“This will be a beautiful, up-scale facility with some state-of-the-art features,” explained Thatcher Brook co-owner David Preece. “We felt there was a big need for this type of facility, and this location in Clearfield, just off of Antelope Drive, provides us with a central location, close to the freeway and hospitals.”

When completed, Thatcher Brook Rehabilitation and Care will be a two-story, 28,000 square foot building, including a basement. The patients using the facility will be those recovering from a medical problem, such as a heart attack, stroke, knee, back or hip surgery, but aren’t ready to return home. Through nursing care, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, and other services the facility will help to rehabilitate the patient so they can function successfully at home. Since it is a short-term care facility patients cannot stay longer than 100 days (Medicare will not pay past this timeframe).

The facility will feature a special therapy pool with an adjustable, treadmill bottom.

“The bottom of the pool moves up and down to accommodate patients of all heights,” explained Preece. “In order to be buoyant the water level must be chest high and this pool allows us to adjust this. It also has a bottom that acts as a treadmill.”

The second floor of Thatcher Brook Rehabilitation and Care will house Thatcher Brook Home Health, and Hospice divisions, currently operated out of Layton and owned by Preece and Deven Pettit. Thatcher Brook will also offer outpatient physical therapy services for its clients.

“We are excited to welcome Thatcher Brook to Clearfield,” stated Clearfield Mayor Don Wood. “Mr. Preece and Mr. Pettit are investing in our community, and we appreciate their efforts in making capital improvements in the area.”

According to Preece, construction on Thatcher Brook Rehabilitation and Care should be completed by December 2008.
