Burglary Suspect -- September 3, 2008 |
| |
**For Immediate Release**
September 3, 2008 (Aggravated Robbery)
On September 2, 2008 at 9:30 P.M., officers from Clearfield Police Department responded to an aggravated robbery call at 293 s State in Clearfield, after being told that a man had just entered Black Velvet and robbed the store clerk at gunpoint.
Officers were told that one male suspect had entered the store at around 9:30 PM. The man ordered the clerk to give him all the money from the cash register. He then pulled a large silver revolver from his waistband and showed the clerk that he was not joking. The store clerk complied with his demands and gave the man an undisclosed amount of money from the till. The clerk was then ordered to a back room by the suspect. He told the clerk to assist him in loading merchandise into garbage bags. The suspect pointed the gun at the clerk again and she assisted him in loading the garbage bags with adult novelty items and adult movies.
When the suspect had the items he wanted, he had the clerk assist him in loading the stolen items into the clerk’s vehicle. The suspect then returned to the store with the clerk and had the clerk handcuff herself to a wall in the back of the store. The suspect then fled the scene by stealing the clerk’s vehicle. As the suspect fled, the clerk was able to free herself and call 911.
As Police Officers arrived in the area, they found the stolen vehicle just a few blocks away from the business. The vehicle was abandoned near an apartment complex. Police Officers searched the area with K-9 and were not able to locate the suspect.
We have been able to obtain video surveillance of the robbery from the store. In the video you can see the suspect enter the store and contact the clerk. He then walks the clerk around the store obtaining items to steal. You can see the suspect point the large silver revolver at the clerk and order her to handcuff herself the back wall. After being in the business for almost 20 minutes, the suspect fled in the stolen car.
While viewing the video, detectives noticed that the suspect looked a lot like a customer that had come into the business earlier in the day. Detectives were able to see that the customer looks almost, if not identical to the suspect. We have added the video of the customer with the video of the suspect so that viewers can identify the customer/possible suspect for us.
