A small cast, but big laughs come to the outdoor Bicentennial Park Amphitheater stage in August with the British backstage comedy “Noises Off”. A play within a play, “Noises Off” was inspired when playwright Michael Frayn was standing in the wings watching a performance of a play he had written for actress Lynn Redgrave. According to Frayn, “it was funnier from behind than in front,” and hence, “Noises Off” was born!
As with any group of actors forced to work closely together for any length of time, romances and arguments abound. From the dress rehearsal to the performance near the end of the ten-week run, this slapstick comedy depicts the antics of the actors offstage during the performance, including fumbled entrances and exits, missed cues, misspoken lines and unlikely props. Add to the mix deteriorating personal relationships and the result is offstage chaos and onstage mishaps.
Sure to be a light-hearted evening of fun, don’t miss this performance by the Clearfield Community Theater group, directed by Andrew Lewis. Performance dates are August 12, 13, 14 and 16, show time 7:30pm, Bicentennial Park Outdoor Amphitheater., 931 E. 600 S., Clearfield. Reserved seats are available from the Community Services Department, 55 S. State Street, or on the night of the performance: $6 adults, $4 children 12 and under, $4 Seniors 60+. Please call Clearfield Community Services at (801)525-2790 with any questions or to purchase tickets by phone.
