September Festivities

chs50thanniv.jpgIt’s been fifty years since the doors of Clearfield High opened. The anniversary celebration began with a kick-off school assembly in April, inducting the first distinguished alumnus into the CHS Hall of Fame, Suzanne Gardner Stott (class of ‘63). The second CHS Hall of Famer Judge Thomas L. Kay (class of ’70) was inducted during Clearfield City’s 4th of July Celebration at Fisher Park. Judge Kay also served as the city’s parade Grand Marshall. The Alumni Association displayed old school photos and sold CHS t-shirts, blankets and pavers at the Fisher Park festival.

On Saturday, September 18, during CHS Homecoming weekend, an Alumni Golf Tournament will be held at Glen Eagle Golf Course at 7am. From noon-3pm a picnic for alumni and their families, current students and the whole community will be held at Fisher Park, 920 S. 1000 E., Clearfield. The fee for the picnic is $12/person and includes a picnic lunch, and a classic rock and roll concert featuring music from the past five decades, and much more (family rates are also available). Guided tours of the high school will begin at 3pm for those who haven’t returned to their alma mater in a while.

In addition to the September 18th festivities, the Alumni Association is selling t-shirts and pavers to help fund the 50th celebration, as well as the CHS Alumni Scholarship to be presented to a qualified student each year. The pavers will be placed between the east side of the school and the entrance to Falcon Stadium. A special ribbon cutting ceremony will be held for the “Path of Glory” and for the “CHS Hall of Fame” in 2011.

To purchase picnic tickets visit www.davis.k12.ut.us/chs, or call Kent Jorgenson, 50th Year Celebration Chairperson, (801)510-1484, Janine Barker, CHS Alumni Association President, (801)774-9705, or Jan Boyington, CHS Alumni Director, (801)791-0084. Golf tournament, picnic tickets, t-shirts and pavers can be purchased on the CHS website via PayPal. Alumni can also nominate a fellow CHS alumnus who has made a significant contribution in their work or personal life on the same web page.
